Algiers & Oran – 9-Day Circuit

Day 1 – Arrival in Algiers

International flight to Algiers. Transfers from your region to the airport are not included unless booked. Arrival at Algiers Airport and welcome by your guide. Discover the new Algiers Mosque (exterior view), the second largest mosque in the Muslim world after Saudi Arabia, with a 270 m minaret (equivalent to 37 floors!). Check-in at your hotel in Algiers for 5 nights. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2 – Algiers

Full day discovering Algiers. Visit the UNESCO-listed Casbah (old town): the Palace of the Dey, Centenary House, Sidi Ramdane Mosque, and the Bir Chebana Fountain. Visit the Princess Khedaoudj Palace and the exceptional Mustapha Pacha Palace in the lower Casbah. Lunch. Continue visiting Jamaa-al-Jdid Mosque, Bastion 23 (Palace of the Raïs), and the Grand Post Office. Shopping break in Bab-el-Oued, then ascend to the Basilica of Notre-Dame d’Afrique for panoramic views. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – Cherchell & Tipaza

Drive along the Turquoise Coast to Cherchell, the ancient Roman city of Caesarea. Visit the National Museum of Cherchell with its remarkable antique sculptures. Continue to Tipaza for a seafood lunch and guided visit of the ancient port city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including the theater, circus, and Roman baths. Return to Algiers for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 – Algiers

Morning visit to the Martyrs’ Memorial (built in 1982) and a cable car ride to the Jardin d’Essai, a lush 32-hectare garden. Lunch. Visit the National Museum of Bardo, housed in an Ottoman-era villa with collections of archaeological artifacts. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5 – Tibhirine & Mitidja

Drive to Boufarik, home of the famous Orangina beverage. Continue through the Chiffa Gorges to the Tibhirine Monastery (Abbaye Notre-Dame de l’Atlas). Lunch at the monastery. Stop at the Monkey Stream to see free-roaming monkeys, then visit the artisan village of El Hamdania. Return to Algiers hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 – Algiers to Oran

Transfer to Algiers train station for a first-class train to Oran. Lunch upon arrival. Afternoon city tour of Oran, the “radiant” city: City Hall, seafront, theater, train station, and the birthplace of Yves Saint Laurent. Continue to Mers El Kebir, the Santa Cruz Fort, Bey Palace, and Hassan Pacha Mosque. Check-in at Oran hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 7 – Oran to Tlemcen

Drive to Tlemcen near the Moroccan border. Lunch. Visit the Andalusian capital of Algeria: the Mechouar Palace-Citadel (13th century), the Great Mosque, and Laalla Setti plateau for panoramic city views. Dinner and overnight.

Day 8 – Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbès, Oran

Depart to the 7-tiered waterfalls of El Ourit, then visit the Eiffel-designed railway bridge. Continue to Beni Addi cave in the Aïn Fezza limestone massif. Lunch in Sidi Bel Abbès (couscous in a traditional tent with folklore). Orientation tour of the city founded by the French in 1849. Return to Oran for dinner and overnight.

Day 9 – Departure from Oran

Transfer to Oran airport for your international flight. Transfers from/to your region are not included unless booked.
